Zing Origami - 2026

An elaboration of my Penfractal pattern to the third level. I folded this a CF6 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I used a 12-inch pentagon inch sheet of skytone paper. The figure is basically a pentagon divided into six smaller pentagons, and each of those divided into six smaller ones, and each of those divided into six smaller ones still! It took me a whole day to do the prefolding, and another half day to collapse it. Fortunately, it worked on the first try, and it came out awesome!

This is an elaboration of my Dimpled Dodecahedron Dome, combined with my Penfractal Tessellation to achieve a subdivision of each pentagonal face into six smaller pentagons. I stared out by thinking this would be a study for a full 360 realization of the idea, but ended up considering the dome a complete sculpture on its own.

Starman  2026
Invented at the CoCon 2026 Connection in Chicago. I had been working on my Vertex Centered Dodecahedron and thinking about using a pentagon sheet for some kind of representational subject. A human figure came to mind, since it has five major extremities, and I thought this approach might provide a refreshing alternative to the more typical box-pleated look of many human subjects. I consider the first attempt merely a base. The next step is to sculpt some characters of different kinds. Although you can't see it with this paper, the head has a color change.
