Zing Origami - Domes and Bowls

This is an elaboration of my Dimpled Dodecahedron Dome, combined with my Penfractal Tessellation to achieve a subdivision of each pentagonal face into six smaller pentagons. I stared out by thinking this would be a study for a full 360 realization of the idea, but ended up considering the dome a complete sculpture on its own.

Based on the regular dodecahedron, the dimpled version replaces each face with a smaller, inverted pentagon, and each vertex with a sunken pyramid. This model began a study for a new approach to a full dodecahedron, but once I folded it I realized that a hemispheric dome was a really interesting shape and cool sculpture in its own right.

Space Domes  2015
Explorations into various space-themed domes, including the Moon Dome and Radar Dome. Not shown are the Observatory, which includes a sliding ridge revealing a telescope lens; Dirigible Hangar, an elongated dome with retractable doors on one end; and Radio Telescope, which is not really a dome but the central dish from the Radio Satellite on a posable stand.
