EZ Video
Design in R&D, Interval Research Corporation, 1999

EZ Video was a project investigating new applications of consumers sharing of digital video.

Scenario 1: Saving Clips from Broadcast TV

Bob's college buddy Dennis is on a hockey team.

Bob watches all the games to see Dennis play.

When Dennis makes a play, Bob saves the clip into EZ Video.
After the game Bob puts all the clips into a highlight reel.

Bob emails the highlight reel to a bunch of his friends.

Variations: Save a local news item and send it to a friend; save a favorite sitcom gag or joke and send it to a friend; save your personal collection of music videos; save a personal collection of Star Trek clips.

Scenario 2: Saving Clips from a Camcorder:

Chuck has always aspired to "do something" with his shoebox full of home video.

For his son's upcoming birthday, Chuck saves a bunch of clips from his various tapes into EZ Video, and creates a nostalgic montage of his son growing up.

Chuck puts the video on his family web site and emails an URL to his relatives.

Variations: Make a video of a recent vacation or trip; student and semi-pro video art projects; distribute bootleg concert videos.

Scenario 3: Saving Clips from a Live Camera:

Three friends want to make a music video for fun. They put a CD in the CD player and play it.

They press record on their remote to activate the EZ Video recorder from their set-top box.

They dance around in front of the camera as the music plays.

When they are done they save the video. The girls make several such clips and put them together into a reel. They watch it back and like it so much they record a VHS copy of it to share with their friends.

Variation: video email greetings and messages.
